Congratulations to James Ryan and James McCann who are graduating from Ulster University with a BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management!
Each graduate took a different route to studying, and have been equally successful, supported by the Killowen Contracts team. We promote continuous learning and provide resources to make educational growth and professional development accessible for all staff.
James Ryan joined Killowen Contracts in 2017 initially for a short stint after secondary school to explore if quantity surveying was the right fit, and he quickly decided to pursue it as a career. Roll on six years and James is a Graduate Quantity Surveyor and an integral part of the team, having completed his degree part-time whilst gaining hands-on experience working with Killowen on a full-time basis. James is an inspiring example of how valuable workplace exposure has helped to shape his professional path.
Andrew Knapton, Director said:
“Killowen Contracts promotes continuous learning and professional development by providing resources and support to staff pursuing educational growth and professional development. Accommodating James to work full-time while completing his degree part-time seemed like an excellent way for him to gain practical hands-on experience alongside his academic studies.”
James Ryan, Quantity Surveyor tells us:
“The entire Killowen Contracts team has been incredibly supportive throughout my journey and has been instrumental in my professional growth. From the start, there was a welcoming and collaborative environment, always ready to help out and give advice. The analytical and practical skills I gained over my six years at Ulster University were perfectly suited to the demands of my role as a Quantity Surveyor. Working at Killowen has allowed me to apply these skills to real projects, which has been a fantastic experience. Their support has been key in shaping my early career as a Quantity Surveyor, and I’m really thankful for all the opportunities Killowen Contracts have offered me. I’m excited to keep growing with the company.”
Having successfully completed his degree, James is looking forward to travelling across Europe this summer.
The Killowen team wish both graduates all the best in their quantity surveying careers ahead! Their dedication to balancing work and academics is commendable.
