Killowen Contracts has commenced a major refurbishment project at the McAuley Building, Mater Hospital Belfast, on behalf of Belfast Health & Social Care Trust.
The significant project, which began in late 2025, involves the complete replacement of the building’s rainscreen cladding system, including subframe, membranes and insulation. This represents a substantial investment in the long-term performance and sustainability of this vital healthcare facility.
Working within an operational hospital presents unique challenges, and our team has developed a carefully phased programme specifically designed to ensure minimal disruption to clinical services and patient care. Throughout the construction period, we’re maintaining rigorous health and safety protocols whilst engaging continuously with hospital stakeholders to coordinate activities around the facility’s operational requirements.
Enhancing Building Performance
This envelope replacement will deliver major improvements to the building’s thermal performance, weather protection and energy efficiency, whilst extending its operational lifespan for years to come.
Close collaboration with hospital management and staff remains central to our approach, ensuring that essential healthcare services continue uninterrupted throughout the construction phase.
The Killowen Contracts team is proud to contribute to the ongoing development of healthcare infrastructure in Northern Ireland and look forward to delivering this important project for the Belfast Health & Social Care Trust.
