“The QUB Lanyon Restoration Project was undertaken over a 2-year period, this included multiple phases and involved complex management and coordination of the conservation works. The objective of the project was to restore the prestigious Grade A Listed Lanyon Building to its former glory while preserving, retaining and restoring as much of the original fabric as possible. This involved significant investigation into traditional construction skills while addressing areas of disrepair through construction of new elements reflecting original craftsmanship. Killowen’s management of this complex programme was exemplary – engaging with and considering the needs of QUB staff and students, General Public, Historical Environment Division (HED), Health & Safety Executive Northern Ireland, Conservation Architects and the Design Team. The project buildability was greatly enhanced by their highly skilled workforce, procurement of specialist skilled labour, material selection, attention to detail and contract management which collectively resulted in the and high standards of finish.”
