Killowen Contracts Ltd have supported Belfast Health and Social Care Trust over the past 10 years. We strive to meet the needs of the Trust through response maintenance, refurbishment and new build construction projects, facilitating continuous improvement of standards and services through our ongoing partnership.
In January 2003 Killowen Contracts Ltd were awarded a four year Partnering Contract by the Royal Group of Hospitals. The contract ended in 2007, however in light of the partnership success the contract was extended for a further two years.
Following on, Killowen Contracts Ltd applied for appointment within the Measured Term Contract to Belfast Health and Social Care Trust in 2009 for a three year period, the qualification process was based on an initial tender proposal, followed by presentation and interview. Our successful application led to appointment within the framework agreement to Belfast City Hospital, the contract has been extended for an additional year to March 2013.
The agreement has been in place since 2007 providing building maintenance and minor building works with an annual value circa £2.5-£3m. Throughout this contract, and those before, Killowen Contracts have been able to form a strong affiliation with the Belfast Trust, building on completed projects to ensure a successful partnership which has been demonstrated through the one year extension.
Projects completed under this contract are a combination of new build, refurbishment and fit out, including medical wards, adminstration offices and staff accomodation. In the majority of cases work is completed in a ‘live’ environment, involving extensive dust/noise suppresion and infection control precautions. We view health and safety and environmental management to be of paramount importance during all projects, particularly so in the case of acute hospital sites.
All Killowen Contracts operatives have been vetted under Access NI, the criminal history disclosure service. This allows the Belfast Trust to assess the suitability of our staff to work with vulnerable patients. Site staff have also attended specific training provided at Belfast City Hospital, including Working within Northern Ireland Blood Transfusion Service, operation of the Lallesse Cradle extending from the Tower Block roof and Asbestos Awareness.
The importance of the Measured Term Contract to Killowen Contracts is exemplified by the appointment of a company director to oversee all works undertaken under the framework. Our experience gained has enabled us to develop a strong team specifically appointed to Belfast Trust, ensuring all expectations are met in respect of design, programme, price, safety, environmental and quality considerations.
v Direct management and emergency response procedures provide immediate contact and reduced response times. We offer an out-of-hours service, including holiday working, to ensure the needs of Belfast Trust are met without compromise.
